The third FEPI conference, entitled FEPI Placing the Patient First; Effective Nursing Regulation across Europe, will focus on patient safety and how nursing regulation ensures public protection. The conference will be presented through three thematic areas that will reflect the work of FEPI carried out in 2007.

Thematic Area 1: Provision of quality nursing services in the internal market
Area 1 will be presenting and receiving feedback on 2007 FEPI initiative towards the set up of a European code of ethics for nursing. This thematic area will focus on how better regulation in the internal market ensures quality patient care. Area 1 will be reflecting the work accomplished by FEPI working group on ethical codes.

Thematic Area 2: Recognition of professional qualifications
Area 2 will provide the opportunity to discuss good practice on the implementation of the Directive of Recognition of Professional Qualifications. This thematic area will also concentrate on the opportunities and challenges of information sharing among competent authorities and citizens in Europe. Area 2 will be reflecting the work accomplished by FEPI working group on regulation.

Thematic Area 3: Nursing education and competences
Area 3 will focus on the effects of the Bologna process on nursing education. This thematic area will explore the possibility of developing a FEPI definition of nursing competences at the European level. Area 3 will be reflecting the work accomplished by FEPI working group ETC (Education, Training and Competences).

The work of the 3 thematic areas will result in the presentation of a resolution on the definition of a European nursing profile.
