The regulation working group will carry out its functions in accordance with the stated objectives of FEPI, that is to protect, maintain and promote the health and safety of the public by creating and maintaining the highest standards of competence and conduct by nursing professionals.
1. To continue to develop a comprehensive database of European nursing regulators and competent authorities, which will be disseminated to regulators across Europe and internationally and to European Institutions.
2. To develop a closer understanding of the regulatory frameworks governing nurses across the EU and to strongly support other European countries in developing nursing regulation.
3. The WG will work on an exchange of information with regard to registration procedures and will collect good practice for setting up and maintaining a register.
4. To provide guidance and exchange of information among nursing regulators and competent authorities in the field of interpreting current European legislation relevant to the regulation of nurses.
5. To co-ordinate strategies for influencing legislative processes at the European level.
6. To collect data from nursing regulators and competent authorities about the outcomes of fitness to practise/disciplinary cases and produce a series of documents that can be disseminated to European countries, identifying learning points for nurses.
7. To follow the work of the Healthcare Professionals Crossing Borders project with nursing regulators and competent authorities and the piloting of the Certificate of Current Professional Status as the tool by which information about nurses is shared with other nursing regulators and competent authorities in the interests of public protection.
