4th FEPI International Conference – Thessaloniki – Greece

Certifying Nursing Competences in an ever closer European Union

27,28 and 29 November 2008

This Conference will give the opportunity for the most eminent representatives from the European Union institutions to debate with academics and practitioners coming from the Nursing profession, the certification of the competences of European nurses. The conference will be presented through four thematic areas that will reflect the work of FEPI carried out in 2008:

  • Patients and nurses’ mobility (27 th in the morning)
    • Area 1 will consist in debate and discussions on mobility of patients and nurses, and how to tackle the ethical and multicultural aspects of mobility in the European Union
      • Keynote speaker: Prof. Benoît Rihoux, Catholic University of Louvain
      • Keynote speaker: representative from a patient’s organisation, to be confirmed
      • Keynote speaker: Prof. Maximo Gonzales Jurado, FEPI Vice-President.
  • Education (28 th in the morning)
    • Area 2 will concentrate on comparative analysis of education in the different EU member states but also from extra-European countries like the United States of America and Canada.
      • Keynote speaker: Member of the Executive Board of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) from the USA.
  • CertificationandAccreditation. (28 th in the afternoon)
    • Area 3 will provide the opportunity to discuss on how to improve the actual system of certification of competences and the accreditation of the professionals of nursing, so that the healthcare processes can be marked out and safer .
  • Nursing and EU decision makers . (29 th in the morning)
    • Area 4 will consist in exchange of knowledge and experiences between nursing professionals and EU representatives, focusing on the DG Markt IMI Project and the future European Commission Directive on ‘Safe, Efficient and High-quality level cross-border healthcare’.
